Trade Union Diploma Courses

Our diploma programme provides you with the skills, knowledge and opportunities for you to progress into other higher education programmes.

 The following TUC courses are for reps who have completed Stages 1 and 2:

DIPLOMA IN EQUALITIES:

The new TUC Diploma in Equalities course is designed for all union reps who have completed Stage 1 and Stage 2, or the equivalent through their union, and who would like to get a wider understanding of equality issues. The course is intended to help reps develop an understanding of equality in the workplace and union as well as understanding current equality legislation and how it can be applied. The Diploma also aims to develop the skills needed to be an effective rep.

Duration:  36 Mondays as follows;

TERM 1: - 12 MONDAYS from 09 JANUARY 2012
8 days in classroom: 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th Jan, 20th and 27th Feb, 19th and 26th March
4 days distance learning: 6th and 13th Feb, 5th and 12th March
TERM 2: - 12 MONDAYS from 16 APRIL 2012
TERM 3: - 12 MONDAYS from 17 SEPTEMBER 2012
(dates for classroom and distance learning for Terms 2 & 3 are tba)
 TIME  -   9.30a.m – 4.30pm

EMPLOYMENT LAW:

This course is a grounding in the law relating to employment and work.  You will learn about collective and individual law, the pressures and influences there are and how it all affects your workplace and the people you represent.  

Duration:  36 Tuesdays as follows;                  

Term 1: 20 SEPTEMBER – 6 DECEMBER 2011

Term 2: 10 JANUARY –  27 MARCH 2012

Term 3: 08 MAY –  24 JULY 2012  

 

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY:

This course helps safety reps to develop their in-depth understanding of health and safety law, occupational health and work-related environmental issues.  

Duration:  36 Thursdays as follows;

Term 1: 29 SEPTEMBER – 15 DECEMBER 2011

Term 2: 12 JANUARY – 29 MARCH 2012

Term 3: 03 MAY – 19 JULY 2012

Workplace reps, shop stewards, staff reps and health and safety reps all have a legal right to attend TUC and union approved courses without loss of earnings.  This falls under Employment Protection and Health and Safety legislation.  If you have difficulty in securing paid release make sure you contact your union branch for support.
