Trade Union Courses
The WEA London Trade Union Studies Team run a variety of courses for Trade Union Representatives of all experiences and backgrounds.
In conjunction with the TUC, our Central London Trade Union courses encourage everyone to learn in a friendly, supportive environment and help reps develop the skills and confidence necessary to be effective in their workplaces. Alongside the core programme, the team is able to deliver short workplace and branch courses on a variety of topics.
Which course is right for you?

Getting started in your role
These courses are designed to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to help you represent your members. If you are a first time rep or have not been on a union course before, the best courses for you would be Union Representatives Stage 1, Health and Safety Representatives 1 or Union Learning Reps Stage 1.

For more experienced reps
If you have already completed a stage 1 in the past two years and have would like to further your skills and knowledge, we offer Stepping Up (for reps), Next Steps for Safety Reps and Union Learning Reps Stage 2.
The diploma programme provides you with the skills, knowledge and opportunities for you to progress into higher education programmes. For reps who have completed Stages 1 and 2, there is the Diploma in Employment Law & Diploma in Equalities and for Health and Safety Reps there is the Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

Getting time off to train
All union reps are entitled to take time off to attend trade union courses. For more information, please see the ACAS guide or consult your workplace agreements. If you have any problems in gaining the time off to train, please contact your branch secretary or full time official.
