HOLA AMIGOS: SPANISH

In this course you will learn or perfect all the basics of how to communicate in Spanish. This course will help you to have a better understanding of the cultural and social aspects of Hispanic life.
This course will be placed at beginners to intermediate but the level will be adapted to the learners.
At the end of the course you will be more familiar with how the language works and will be able to use it more confidently.

ART AND THE CITY: THE BROADGATE SCULPTURES EXPLORED

This weekend course will examine the exciting collection of public sculpture on display around the Broadgate area, in the heart of London’s financial centre. Students will explore the sculptures through walks, lectures, classroom discussions and activities.

SHORT COURSES ON JAPANESE POPULAR CULTURE
12th, 19th and 26th June, 3 Saturday afternoons, 1pm – 5pm

1) The Roots of Japanese Animation: 1917-1930s -12/6/10
An overview of the early history of Japanese animation, its roots in traditional entertainment and popular culture and its place in global cultural cross-currents in the early 20th century. Illustrated with clips from early silents and talkies.
2) The Outer Limits of Anime: Japanese animation outside the mainstream – 19/6/10
An overview of the wealth of Japanese animation that is less well-known outside Japan, including independent animation by major commercial talents, puppet animation and claymation. Illustrated with clips showing iconographic and narrative links with international animation, art and culture.
3 A Thumbnail History of Manga – 26/6/10
Fast-paced, information-packed overview of the history of Japanese comics from their origins in street art through the impact of 19th-century Western media to their 21st-century role in global culture.


CONTEMPORARY ART IN EAST LONDON
26 June 2010, Saturday,10.30am -3.30pm

The morning session will consist of a presentation and tutor-led discussions examining the recent explosion of contemporary art in this area of London.
Two of the foremost contemporary galleries in Hoxton and Shoreditch, White Cube and Flowers East, have exercised significant influence in the contemporary art world. We will consider the artistic genres they promote and examine some of their recently exhibited artworks.
In the afternoon, we will visit both galleries further to reflect on these influential art spaces and to explore together their current displays.


YOGA
1st July for 5 weeks, twice a week every Monday and Thursday 5.30pm to 7.30pm. 20 hours teaching.

Yoga can promote physical health, mental focus and relaxation: sessions will include gentle postures to develop flexibility, relaxation and breathing techniques. Practice can be adapted for differing abilities. Wear loose clothes, bring a mat, blanket, cushion.

CAR PARKING
The best choice seems to be the RCP in Phipp Street (up Holywell Row from Clifton Street). It charges £2 per hour or £11 all day and is open 7am – 7pm Monday to Friday.
